Many Different Choices Of Lenses

Although Canon is a company that most people are very familiar with, many are surprised to learn that the multi-national company was established and is headquartered in Japan.  That's right, it's a Japanese company, despite the European or American sounding name.  Canon was established in 1937 in Tokyo, Japan, and was originally known as “Kwanon.”  In 1947 the company changed its name over to the easily recognizable name we all know today.  Canon is well known in the photography market but also makes such things as printers, scanners, binoculars, calculators, medical equipment, and other items.

The cameras that Canon makes have achieved nearly legendary status among photographers, both amateur and professional alike.  The company's products have changed throughout the years as the market has changed, often staying a step or two ahead of the market trend.  Today's Canon digital SLRs produce superior image quality and are very easy to use.

If the number of choices in cameras Canon makes can be described as “diverse,” the shear number of lenses the company makes to go with its cameras is truly astounding.  The company makes a wide assortment of ultra-wide zoom lenses, standard zoom lenses, telephoto zoom lenses, wide angle lenses, standard and medium telephoto lenses, super Canon telephoto lenses, macro lenses, and tilt shift lenses.  With so many Canon camera lenses to choose from, it can truly be confusing at times.

Inspect Used Lenses Well Before Buying

Let's face it, camera lenses are expensive.  It's easy to see why though when consider how they are made.  The optics contained in the lenses have to be carefully ground to achieve a high degree of accuracy.  Because of the expense of these lenses, many people turn to the used market to buy used Canon lenses in an attempt to save money.  You have to be careful though with these cheap Canon lenses.  For one thing, you never really know how well they were treated by their previous owner.  Even though the lens may look great on the outside, this doesn't mean that the insides are in the best condition.  After all, what's inside the lens is what really counts.

You will also want to be careful if you are looking at purchasing a refurbished lens.  What company did the refurbishing work?  Is the company reputable?  The only way to be absolutely sure is to either purchase a brand new lens or purchase a lens that the company has refurbished itself.

There are many things to consider when you are in the market for a Canon lens.  And if you are thinking about buying a second hand unit, you might want to consider a lens that Canon has refurbished itself.  This way, you will know that you are buying a quality product.
